ARCA Carpintería is an artisan workshop in Pachuca de Soto, Hidalgo, Mexico. Every piece of Montessori furniture is designed and handcrafted by master carpenter Armando, built to the exact dimensions of your space.
We work exclusively with solid wood — pine or oak — with a non-toxic water-based sealant. No MDF, no plywood. Safe for the children who will use it from day one.
The Montessori philosophy calls for a child's environment to foster independence and autonomy: floor-level beds, front-facing bookshelves, chairs at the right height. Every piece is adjusted to your exact measurements.

Solid wood vs MDF
Most children's furniture on the market is made from MDF — wood fibers bonded with synthetic resins. At ARCA we never use it. Here's why that matters for your child.
MDF / Plywood
- ✕ Made with formaldehyde-based resins (IARC Group 1 carcinogen)
- ✕ Can off-gas volatile organic compounds for months inside the bedroom
- ✕ Swells and delaminates with moisture; fragile edges
- ✕ Typical lifespan of 5–10 years with normal use
- ✕ One hard knock damages the edge beyond repair
ARCA solid wood
- ✓ 100 % natural pine or oak — no synthetic resins or binders
- ✓ Non-toxic water-based sealant, safe for children from day one
- ✓ Dense and stable; does not warp with daily use or normal humidity
- ✓ Lasts for decades and can be passed down between siblings
- ✓ Any scratch can be sanded and re-finished at home, leaving no trace
* Formaldehyde was classified as a Group 1 carcinogen by the IARC / WHO in 2004. High-density MDF boards often exceed recommended emission limits for occupied spaces.
